The Tormented: Sean Brenner (Dermot Mulroney); Quinn Brenner (Stefanie Scott); Elise Rainier (Lin Shaye); Specs (Leigh Whannell); Tucker (Angus Sampson)

It’s been awhile since I did a review. Let’s see how this goes.

The Gist: The third installment of the Insidious franchise takes the story backward to before the Lambert family haunting and introduces Elise and how she hooked up with her ghost hunting cohorts Specs and Tucker. In this tale the family under attack is the Brenners’. The haunting begins when teen daughter Quinn tries to contact her recently deceased mother and opens the doorway to the further and a malevolent spirit that resides in her apartment building. Quinn seeks out a retired Elise in attempt to get help with trying to make contact but is turned away until the spirit gets violent and Quinn’s father, Sean, begs Elise for help.

Impressions: I actually enjoyed this movie for the way it created a very creepy atmosphere within the further and the few glimpses of the spirits shown were suitably unsettling. The resolution to the haunting however, was a bit weak.

Final Thoughts: Insidious Chapter 3 glimpsed into another tale of the further which visually was quite good but did fall flat at the end. Overall it was more enjoyable than the second installment and on par with the first. Recommended for sure and it’s not really necessary to watch either of the first 2 to follow the story.
